Sports events trophies
Usually, when one talks about trophies, images automatically conjured in mind are the large towers of columns piled on top of each other and the massive cups and chalices awarded in sports events. Trophies vary in many ways, not only on the awarding event but also in the material used, the form, structure and symbolism.
There are many inexpensive trophies made of plastic available in the market nowadays. Manufacturers of these trophies usually wrap the structure in metallic foil that will quite resemble a gold, silver or bronze trophy. On the other hand, formal awards prefer to have their trophies made in glass or crystal, or if finances cannot afford the prices of these, acrylic trophies are also available, which is clear plastic that resembles glass.
As far as sports events are concerned, metal trophies are the trend, with cups and chalices as the bearer of victory and triumph. It is said that this kind of structure can be traced in history on 1600s in the New World when they granted cups and chalices to winners of sports events. The cups awarded usually are two-handled and are in silver. These awards were mostly given on sport races like horseracing, boat racing and early automobile racing.
Up to this age, the cup or the chalice is still used for sports events trophies, like in the prestigious competitions for the World Cup in football, baseball and tennis, to name a few. In the field of tennis, for instance, the big winner for the men’s tournament, receives a large cup, while on women’s tournament, a large silver plate is granted.
Of course, there are other forms of trophies for other sports events, depending on the theme of the event. Some incorporate figurines of sports legends atop columns. A stylized human figurine can mostly be seen in track and fields sports and in golf tournaments.
Resin is also used as material for sports events trophies. However, resin for trophies is usually an award for participation. What’s great about is, it can still be customized. Way better than the mass-produced plastic trophies sold everywhere.
Generally, trophies for sports events don’t follow any specific format or structure. It can be a five-foot tower with a cup or a level of columns piled on top of each other to hold a figurine of a swinging golfer or a running athlete, as long as it is made beautifully, it will be the most treasured possession of an achiever that he/she can always brag about.
